    Hagi Castle was constructed by the samurai lord Mōri Terumoto, and served as the base of the Choshu domain for over 250 years. Be sure to visit the donjon ruins, the stone Bansei-bashi bridge, and the tea house that was moved here in 1889.

    The Shoka Village School is a private school founded by Yoshida Shoin, a famous intellectual who had a large influence on Bakumatsu loyalists and key people during the Meiji period. Be sure to also pay a visit to the Yoshida Shoin Former Residence, which is a nationally designated historical site, and the Shoin Shrine which was constructed during the Meiji period.
