Visitors will be amazed by the beautiful views of the shrine's 123 red Torii gates. The Motonosumi Inari Shrine was selected by CNN, an American TV station, as one of the top 31 most beautiful spots in Japan. The castle grounds contain around 500 cherry blossom trees that bloom in the spring, and is also home to the Midoriyoshino, a rare variety of cherry blossom tree that is only found in Hagi city. The layout of the city remains unchanged to this day. The castle town was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2015. The castle town contains samurai residences, the homes of wealthy merchants, and machiya townhouses. Enjoy walking through this well-preserved castle town with the feel of an outdoor museum.
